Spring Budget 2023: What this means for Immigration?

In yesterday’s announcement, Chancellor Jeremy Hunt MP indicated that there will upcoming changes expected in autumn 2023 to the business visitor visa requirements and the addition of construction workers to the Shortage Occupation List.  As well as providing additional language and employment support for Ukraine Visa Scheme holders.

Business Visitor Visa Requirements:

The aim is to simplify business visitor rules and to make it easier and more attractive to do business in the UK. The range of short-term business activities carried out for a period of 6 months will be expanded and there will be a review of the permitted paid engagements.

These changes will also apply to non-visa national business visitors, such as those from the EU or America.

Constructions Workers:

Five construction occupations be added to the shortage occupation list:

  • Bricklayers and masons
  • Roofers, roof tilers and slaters
  • Carpenters and joiners
  • Plasters and dryliners; and
  • Construction and building trades not elsewhere classified.

 

Ukraine Visa Scheme -Intensive English Language Courses And Employment Support:

An extension of the support provided to Ukrainians who arrived in the UK under the Ukraine Visa Schemes. The government is providing £11.5 million for intensive English language courses and employment support for up to 10,000 individuals.

This new funding is expected to “boost the number of Ukrainians entering the labour market for the first time, as well as helping those already employed into higher-skilled roles”.
