Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority CICA

The CICA is a fund set up by the Government in order to compensate victims of violent crime, including sexual and physical abuse.

There are often strict timescales and generally you have to make a claim to the CICA within 2 years of the incident or if this happened in childhood two years after you reach the age of 18.  The CICA do have discretion in cases of sexual abuse to extend the deadline, but it is important to claim as soon as you are able.  The abuse must also be reported to the Police.

How can we help you?

We have extensive experience of assisting people in making claims through the CICA.  We can assist you in what is an often complicated process. You can claim through the CICA even if you are making a claim through the Civil courts although any award you receive in a civil claim would have to be offset by any CICA award you receive.

If you have been the victim of abuse, please contact us and we can advise you as to whether it is appropriate or possible to make a claim through the CICA.
