Level 1 Users on Sponsor Management System (SMS) required to provide National Insurance Number (NINO)

From 19th June 2023 a new requirement was introduced on the SMS guidance which makes it mandatory for new Level 1 Users to provide their national insurance number. This will also apply where amendments are being made to the details of an existing Level 1 User.

Failure to supply a NINO or failing to provide a valid exemption reason or confirmation that a NINO has been applied for may affect the outcome of the individual’s request to be added as a Level 1 User or to update their details.

At the time of applying for a Sponsor licence, a business must appoint certain Key Personnel to manage their sponsor licence. There are namely 4 roles to do this;

  1. Authorising Officer- This is a senior and competent person responsible for the actions of staff and representatives who use the SMS
  2. Key Contact-This person will act as main point of contact with UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI)
  3. Level 1 User- The appointed Level 1 User is responsible for all day-to-day management of your licence using the SMS
  4. Level 2 User-The appointed Level 2 User has more restricted access than a Level 1 User
