Has anyone been watching I, Jack Wright it is a 2025 British family drama television series created by Chris Lang and starring John Simm, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Daniel Rigby and Trevor Eve. It can be found on U/Alibi if it has passed you by.

If not, the basic premise follows an apparent suicide, a wealthy patriarch's will and testament which surprisingly leaves virtually nothing of his wealth to his third wife and two sons from a first marriage.  The estate is worth over £150 million pounds.

It is, if you are like me, a private wealth dispute lawyer (contested wills and probate) a litigation dream – a large estate, blended families, claims of lack of capacity, and 1975 act claims – the rule of forfeiture and even caveats get a mention.

As it is a drama for TV and they have done quite well in terms of he legal process and the legal principles,  inevitably some of the steps taken, including the exhumation of the buried body to check for dementia, without getting medical records first,  is  a little far-fetched and would never probably be permitted, the reality of the story, with families being torn apart by the death of a loved one and various challenges to a will,  are, sadly, all too familiar to me and sadly on the rise.

While I hope that no-one find themselves in this situation, if you do it is even more important to ensure that you get the correct legal advice from a specialist in this area of the law as it has its own complexities and nuances. My team and I can assist with all claims and disputes arising from a Will of the deceased.  So please feel free to reach out to me or one of the team.
