Fast Track Service for British Citizenship

The Home Office recently introduced a new paid Priority Service for eligible British citizenship applications. The updated guidance took effect on 6 July 2026, and it marks one of the most significant changes to the British naturalisation process.

This new service will allow applicants to pay an additional £500 on top of the application cost for a quicker decision.

Under the standard service decisions have taken up to 6 months. With the introduction of the Priority Service applicants will receive a decision within 30 working days of attending their biometric appointment.

The Priority Service only affects the speed at which as case is reviewed. Applicants are reminded that they are still required to meet the eligibility requirements for naturalisation or registration as a British citizen, as well as satisfying the relevant residence, good character and other nationality requirements.

The Home Office have confirmed that certain cases that turn out to be complex or require additional checks may take longer than 30 working days even after the priority service fee has been paid.
