Ella Welch
Ella is a Trainee Solicitor specialising in Court of Protection and Mental Health Law. She has a background in biochemistry and is currently completing her master’s in law at the University of Law.
Since turning to law, she has gained experience in both children and adult safeguarding within a Local Authority setting. This work provided her with a practical and insightful grounding in issues of vulnerability, capacity, and decision making, which now informs her approach to mental capacity and mental health matters.
Ella is working towards to qualifying as a Solicitor through the SQE route and is steadily developing her expertise across both Court of Protection and Mental Health Law. Within the Court of Protection team, she has a case load of a broad range of matters involving individuals who lack capacity, including health and welfare applications. She is deeply passionate about ensuring that people’s rights, wishes, and autonomy are respected and robustly protected.
Alongside her work in the Court of Protection, Ella is also working towards Mental Health Accreditation through The Law Society, which is the recognised quality standard for practitioners representing patients in proceedings under the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended).
In 2025, Ella was awarded Hampshire Law Society’s Junior Lawyer of the Year in recognition of her dedication and contribution to the profession.
