Injunctions Given in Counterfeit Web Sales Case

A recent decision is good news for the proprietors of brands that suffer from the trepidations of counterfeit copies of their goods being sold over the Internet.

The High Court ruled that the owner of a variety of luxury brands that suffered this problem was able to require Internet Service Providers (ISPs), on whose servers the offending goods were being advertised and sold, to block access by their subscribers to the offending websites.

As the judgment involved the ISPs that service 95 per cent of the retail Internet market in the UK, it represents a significant victory for the owners of brands that are prey to counterfeiting.
